The Traffic Redirector module allows you to redirect a user to another URL based on any of several criterion. This is useful, for example, if you have a tool on your web site which is only available to members of a specific role. If someone who isn't logged in as a member of that role visits the page, you can display a generic sales or login required message. Whereas if the visitor is logged in as a member of the allowed role, they are able to view and access their tools and content. With the redirector module, you're actually using two different pages but the site visitor experiences it as one page.
Query String Variable The Query String variable is used in conjunction with a Query String argument. By default the variable is ‘adid’. The setting allows you to change this to any string. The query string option allows you to configure the auto redirect to vary based on the query string. For example, a user sent the redirect tab with an the following query string specified: http://localhost/dotnetnuke/redirecttab/38/default.aspx?adid=category1 Will be redirected to a page that is has been configured with category1.
Configuration
In Auto Redirection mode, a module can have an unlimited number of configurations. The configurations can vary by a Query String, or referral, or nothing at all. Click the Add button to configure a new configuration.
Query String
Specifying a query string will allow you to categorize the your redirection. If for instance you want to send out emails to your users, you can configure links in the email (or emails) with different query strings, and based on which link the user clicks they will be sent to a different page. The redirector will record which configuration the user used. Leaving this blank will cause the redirector to look for a query string.
Referral
Specifing a referral will redirect the user based on where they came from. The redirector will search any part of the referral string sent to redirect the user. Ei. Entering ‘google’ in the referral textbox will redirect any users coming to your web page from google.
Default Url
Specifies where unathenicated users and users whom roles have do not a redirection specified will be redirected.
Always use Default Window Setting
This specifies if ‘Open in New Window’ option can be changed based on user, or role specific redirection. Use this option if you do not want users to be able to change the setting in user defined links.
User or Role specific Redirection
Once a configuration has been created, you can then enter specific redirections based on a users role, or the user id. Leave these blank if the default url is to be used.
