Search engines are great.  Follow these Best Practices:

• Update your content frequently
• Resubmit the site to the search engines when there are significant content changes, ideally every two to three months --- and do the submission by hand (or have us do it for you)
• Follow guidelines to keep your site up to the highest standards of accuracy and accessibility

Not always, but generally, if you follow these Best Practices you can reasonably expect that someone will be able to find you from the search engines when they already have you in mind and they are looking specifically for you.  Additionally, you can usually have a reasonable expectation of some amount of fresh traffic -- new leads and new business -- from the search engines.

However, for best results, Best Practices alone aren't enough.  They are a starting point but after your web site is "consumer-ready", use a combination of well-placed professional pay-per-click advertising, and affiliate marketing.  With this powerful combination, your web site could very well generate more return on investment than any other advertising tool.
